The market is occupied by Chinese companies and Samsung will gradually withdraw from the LED business! Allocate resources to semiconductors

According to media reports on September 14, in the face of fierce market competition, Samsung Electronics is planning to gradually withdraw from the LED business and reallocate resources to the semiconductor field.

Samsung's LED business includes three major areas: lighting equipment LED, TV LED and automotive LED. The company will first stop producing LED chips for lighting equipment and plans to close the lighting business in the first half of 2026.

Then it stopped the TV LED business in the second half of the year, and finally completely exited the automotive LED lighting field by the end of 2030.

Samsung's LED business has been underperforming in recent years and has been subject to fierce competition from low-cost Chinese products and international brands,

Industry reports show that China's LED market size will grow from approximately 50 billion yuan in 2016 to 150 billion yuan in 2024, with an annual growth rate of more than 10 percentage points.

Chinese companies such as Nationstar Optoelectronics, BOE and Sanan Optoelectronics have made significant progress in technology and market position, intensifying competition in the global market.

Among them, China Star, NVC Lighting and Sunshine Lighting are leading in the field of LED lighting equipment; while BOE and TCL occupy an important position in the field of TV LED; in the automotive field, BYD has become a major player.
